Helping out a Friend

I've been helping out a friend who has been working on improving his fundamentals in drawing. Recently he has made a lot of progress, and I'm happy that he has kept motivated. I thought I'd make a post about helping a friend.

Here is a drawing by Yohan Grimm.

Yohan asked me for advice about how he could improve it, so I sent him this

I was worried that when I sent this he might feel bad that I had to change his pose so much to correct it. Fortunately I was wrong, and it motivated him to keep trying.

Ever so often he would send me something, and if  I had time and I was in the mood I would send him something like this. I'd draw over his work and try to see if I could make simple explantations for Yohan.

Most recently I corrected these drawings for Yohan.

I try to make the drawings in the spirit of what Yohan wanted to draw. When I see the drawing he sent me at first, compared to where he is now, I see a real improvement. There is a lot more to learn, for me and him. I learn a lot by helping him out.

I have other friends that I try to help out when I can. Sometimes I fall short, other times I spoil a relationship that could have been salvaged. I wish I was better at keeping, maintaining, and healing relationships. As time goes on, I learn about how limited I am with my time, resources, patience and endurance. Knowing that, I hope I leave friends better off than when we first meet.

Keep at it Yohan, keep at it my friends.

And to all the people who's lives I've soured, I'm only human. Maybe next time we meet we can work to make it better.

Cheers,

Rémy
